Notion Integration
The Notion integration connects your knowledge base to Barvol, letting the AI reference your documents, wikis, and databases when answering questions. It is the integration that most directly extends the AI's knowledge of how your company thinks and operates.
What Barvol reads from Notion
Barvol reads from the pages and databases you select during setup. It reads:
- Page titles and text content
- Database rows (title and text properties)
- Nested subpage content in authorized pages
- Last-edited dates
Barvol does not read page comments, page history, file attachments, or pages outside the scope you authorize.
Connecting Notion
Go to Integrations, click Notion, and click "Connect." You will be redirected to Notion to authorize the Barvol integration. Notion's authorization model is page-based — you grant access to specific pages and their child pages, not to your entire workspace.
During setup, Barvol will ask which pages or databases to sync. Start with your most important operational documents: your product roadmap, your company wiki or handbook, your ICP and positioning docs, and any customer research you have in Notion.
How Notion data is used
Notion content becomes part of the AI's knowledge context. This means when you ask questions in the AI chat, Barvol can reference your Notion documents to give more grounded answers.
Examples:
- "What does our product roadmap say about the mobile app?" — Barvol references the roadmap page in Notion.
- "What's our ICP?" — Barvol pulls from your positioning document.
- "What did we decide at our last strategy offsite?" — Barvol reads your meeting notes page.
Sync frequency
Notion syncs every hour. Changes you make in Notion appear in Barvol within 60 minutes. For critical documents that change frequently, you can trigger a manual sync from the Notion integration settings.
Managing authorized pages
You can add or remove authorized pages at any time from the Notion integration settings in Barvol. Adding a new page triggers an immediate sync of that page's content. Removing a page stops syncing it and removes the content from Barvol's AI context — this takes effect within a few minutes.
