Tasks

Barvol's task system is a lightweight action tracker designed for founders who need to move fast. It surfaces what needs to get done today without the overhead of a full project management tool.

Creating a task

Open the Tasks page from the sidebar and click "New Task" in the top-right corner. You can also create tasks inline from the Ask Barvol chat — if the AI surfaces an action item, click "Create task" next to it.

Each task has the following fields:

  • Title — a short, actionable description. Start with a verb ("Write," "Review," "Send").
  • Description — optional detail, context, or relevant links.
  • Assignee — you or any workspace member. Unassigned tasks appear in the team view.
  • Due date — when the task should be complete. Overdue tasks are highlighted on the dashboard.
  • Priority — Low, Medium, High, or Urgent.
  • Goal link — optionally connect the task to a goal. This helps the AI track progress toward that goal.
  • Status — Todo, In Progress, Blocked, or Done.

Views

The Tasks page offers three views. Switch between them using the tabs at the top of the page:

  • My Tasks — tasks assigned to you, sorted by due date.
  • Team Tasks — all tasks across the workspace, grouped by assignee.
  • Board — a Kanban-style view organized by status. Drag tasks between columns to update their status.

Filtering and sorting

Use the Filter button to narrow tasks by assignee, priority, goal, or status. Filters are temporary — they reset when you leave the page. If you have a filter combination you use regularly, bookmark the URL, which encodes the active filters.

Tasks can be sorted by due date, priority, or creation date using the Sort dropdown next to the filter button.

Completing tasks

Mark a task as done by clicking the circle to the left of the task title. Completed tasks are moved to the "Done" section, which collapses by default. Completed tasks are preserved indefinitely — they contribute to progress tracking on linked goals and appear in the AI's context when you ask about past work.

AI-generated tasks

When you ask Barvol a question in the AI chat and the answer involves an action item, Barvol will offer to create a task automatically. For example, if you ask "What should I follow up on from last week's customer calls?" the AI may suggest tasks based on the meeting notes and emails it has access to.

You can also ask Barvol directly: "Create a task to follow up with Acme Corp by Friday." The AI will create the task and confirm the details before saving.

NoteTasks are not a replacement for a dedicated project management tool like Linear or Jira. If you use Linear or Jira, connect the integration — Barvol will pull in issues from those tools so you have a unified view without duplicating your workflow.
TipLink tasks to goals whenever possible. It gives the AI the ability to answer "How much progress did we make toward our Q3 goal last week?" accurately.
